Paint protection film (PPF), also known as clear bra, is a clear, urethane-based film that’s applied to painted surfaces to protect them from minor damage. PPF can be used on cars, airplanes, RVs, cell phones, electronics, screens, motorcycles, and more. It can help prevent scratches, bug splatters, stone chips, minor abrasions, door dings, oxidation, UV damage, and bird droppings. PPF is about eight mils thick, with a liner on the back and a protective top coat on top.
PPF can be a worthwhile addition to help protect a car’s finish, but it may not make sense for every driver or every car due to its high application cost. When choosing PPF, you can consider factors such as durability, clarity, and cost. Old PPF technology can take a lot of abuse over the years, but it will eventually require replacement, typically after 5 to 10 years.
